Sandpoint, Idaho / Commercial Renovation / Built in 2024
Originally constructed as the Gold Medal Grocery Store and an office circa 1910, this masonry building underwent multiple renovations over the century. Located in downtown Sandpoint, honoring the historic qualities of this project was the goal from the outset, while also modernizing the building systems. Years of interior additions left little of the original character showing through. North Root Architecture drew up a design that stripped back the layers from over the years and restored it to its former transparent street façade, creating a rich and engaging frontage with maintaining much of the original masonry and harkening to decorative cast iron steel elements of the era. The new building program space is made up of a law office, public accountant and rear apartment.
